Gryphons Program Nets 8 Total Olympic Development Program Selections

A major component of playing in the Super Y-League is the Super Y Olympic Development Program(ODP).  Players are identified over the course of the season by coaches and league officials as being top achievers for both their teams and their playing positions.  Players go through a nomination process, then a selection procedure with the final selections announced on December 22, 2011.  The Gryphons are pleased to announce that 5 players from the U17 squad and 3 players from the U16 squad have been selected to the ODP for 2011/2012.  Congratulations to 1994 birth year selections, Taylor Campbell, Jennifer Chambers, Rebecca Jefferson, Joanne Nielsen, Ali MacAulay, and Kaylee Stewart-Garrison, and to 1995 birth year selections, Maria Mitchell and Emma Ashby.  Both Maria and Emma will be attending the 1995 Super Y-League ODP National Camp in Tampa Florida in March.  More details on the ODP program and the Gryphon selections can be found at:  http://supery.uslsoccer.com/home/587311.html

2011 U16 London Gryphons Finish Well at Ramapo Valley New York Showcase

The U16's(94/95's) played this past weekend at the Ramapo Valley Girls Showcase in Suffern New York/Mahwah New Jersey.  The team started off on a winning note Saturday morning with a 2-1 victory against Belleville in a match of the two Canadian entrants in the tournament.  In the Saturday afternoon match a late goal by the Gryphons pulled them even in a 1-1 draw with SC Prowl of New Jersey.  The Gryphons dominated most of this match but were unable to find the net until late.  The first game on Sunday was against the host club Ramapo Valley, with the Gryphons taking a 1-0 lead to half.  After several injury delays, the Gryphons came out flat and fell 2-1 in a very hard fought match.  In the Sunday afternoon match, the Gryphons bounced back with a 2-0 victory in a very well played game against Lehigh Valley from Pennsylvania.  Overall a good weekend for the team, taking third place in the Showcase and getting some good exposure to College Coaches from the northeast.

2011 Gryphons

As the 2011 season approaches, this year's Gryphons teams are starting to take shape. Building on the success of last year with U21 Team winning OWSL South Region, the U17 team becoming North American Silver Medalists and the first year U16 team just getting edged out for a spot in the North American Finals, the Academy moves up and adds to the program. This year will see the U21 girls move up to the OWSL Provincial division. It will see our successful U16 team take on U17 challengers in the Super Y and the addition of our U16 team playing their first season in the Super Y.

2011 has already seen a number of U17 players commit to NCAA university programs with a number of additional commitments to occur both in the US and Canada over the coming weeks. Over the next few weeks as universities announce their additions on their sites, we will add their accomplishments on this site with links to keep tabs on them as they begin their university careers.

The Gryphon Academy history is short, but we would like to keep track of our history and accomplishments, to that end we have edited the tabs to include articles from club history and a college bound tab to keep a running record of the players who have moved to post secondary play.
